RECO Y Government House, 14 JUL 1907
1 REG.
Hongkong, 13th September, 1907.
I have the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from the Principal Civil Medical Officer, together with a joint report of the Principal Civil Medical Officer and the Acting Director of Public Works, concerning the erection of a new operating theatre for the Government Civil Hospital.
2.
The cost of constructing a new kitchen, removing the old one and erecting the mere shell of the building for the operating theatre is estimated by the Acting Director of Public Works at $9,000, but this amount would doubtless be largely increased by the special internal fittings and arrangements required. The cost of these fittings cannot be ascertained locally and I shall therefore be glad if, in the event of the proposal receiving your approval, you will be good enough to inform me of the estimated expenditure which will be involved and to obtain for the use of this Government drawings of the operating theatre at London Hospital to which reference is made in the enclosed report.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
The Right Honourable
Joseph Chamberlain, M.P.,
